The Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) is an RNA virus that depends on hepatitis B virus (HBV) for replication and is transmitted through blood or body fluids. It can cause severe liver disease, especially in superinfections, with diagnosis via antibody and PCR tests; no specific treatment exists, but HBV vaccination provides effective protection.
